It seems that most photographers, and album companies for that matter, offer the basics. Black, Brown, White, Grey, etc... but if you are a bride that enjoys fashion, then you are probably finding yourself a little board when you visit photographers and go through sample albums.

Just as designer handbags, shoes, and clothing have a special place in your heart, your wedding book should be no exception. Books by a new designer book crafting company called LuxArt Books takes wedding albums and books to new heights by creating one of a kind collections with fine leathers and hides in just about any color and design imaginable. Platinum Crocodile, Pink Alligator, Chocolate Brown Ostrich, and a world of other originals make these books a cut above. Your book can be designed with your personality in mind. Design your cover to match your color scheme, your home decor, or your even favorite handbag. Whatever your tastes, your book cover should compliment the photography inside making your book a work of art from start to finish.

If you aren't seeing creativity on this level, ask for LuxArt Books by name to your photographer.

Photography|Motion Picture Fusion

There is a new way to capture and view the world on the horizon that is quickly becoming the buzz around the wedding industry. Canon and Nikon recently introduced new hybrid cameras that capture both still photography and motion picture all from the very same system. This new advancement in photography will no doubt change the product offering of studios around the world if they haven't already. Early adopters of this new medium are giving rave reviews.

While much has been upgraded on the still photography front as well, the video being captured by these state of the art systems offer dramatically more detail than current HD video cameras and Canon's newest camera even captures in full 35mm 1080p. There are a few unanswered questions that couples will have about this technology and since I have first hand experience, I thought I would share a little insight...

Will this allow couples to replace the cost of videography?
The answer to that is clearly no. Having worked with the systems I can say without question that one photographer simply cannot capture both video and still photographs at the same time. While in theory it can be done, in the real world working environment of fast paced weddings, trying to do both will end in something being missed. Whether you hire a photographer or video company with this technology or not, it is imperative that you make sure that there is a person dedicated to motion picture and a second person dedicated to still photography.

Is this new hybrid concept better?
Better in some ways, yes. However different is a more accurate word to describe what can be done. These systems are smaller than current HDV or HD cameras allowing artists to work even more unobtrusively than ever before. They can also capture more detailed video in lower light conditions that any other HD cameras on the market making them perfect for weddings. The look of the footage is sharper and the color renderings are far superior as well. Compliment all of this with every lens Canon and Nikon makes being able to mounted onto the camera and new worlds open up for visual artists.

There are a few drawbacks in sound production. While the sound on the cameras is very good, as of this date, they are lacking the ability to mix sound from multiple microphones. This is useful in many areas of videography, but certainly not a must. What really matters is that you like what you see and hear when you are interviewing potential video artists. However, I must suggest that you seek out videographers or still photographers that are utilizing these new cameras to see for yourself because the image quality is so superior.

What are the options for my wedding?
Many photographers I have talked to have plans to blend a few motion picture clips into a slideshow along with their still photographs with this new technology at an attractive price point. Videographers we have spoken with are considering the cameras for key moments such as low light situations but will blend this footage with their current HD or HDV cameras to offer couples the best of both worlds. The door is now wide open and each company will likely use this their own way. Therefore I wouldn't dare compare based on price at all, but rather how each company uses the technology to it's full potential. There will be a wide range of products and options available for weddings. What matters is that you learn, know, and understand what each company is capable of before making a decision.

In Closing...
Keep an open mind right now when it comes to the fusion of motion picture and stills. It will take some time before professionals can wrap their heads and hands around what products couples get excited about. However, based on what we are seeing first hand, I have to suggest that you at least ask about this new technology and plan on seeing the difference for yourself. While video is often an afterthought, you might want to take a strong look again, because video is just about to be stepped up to big screen qualities that radiate art and style.

Imagine having a documentary so visually powerful that you and your friends experience a wow factor. In the right hands this new technology will offer just that. Plus.. you can take it with you on your phone everywhere you go, stream it on the web, and much much more. Now how cool is that?

wedding veils

Today so many brides are exposed to amazing bridal fashion. Bridal veils are a symbol of that final touch to complete the brides wedding attire. So many brides are undecided if they want a veil at all. My thought is go for it! I love seeing a bride with a wedding veil! So many of my brides say to me when I am photographing their weddings, is that when they put the veil on they really felt like a bride. You have so many choices today when it comes to veils. I happen to love the French veil or you may know of them as bird cage veils as you see in the photograph. They have a classic yet fashionable look to them, they remind me of Vintage Hollywood. Here are some things to think about when choosing your veil. If you want to have a cathedral length veil ask about a veil bustle. This way when you walk down the isle it looks stunning and when you are dancing it is out of the way. Many brides choose to have a veil for the ceremony but want to take it off for the reception. That is a great idea and you will be very comfortable. If this idea sounds good, you may want to consider hair jewelry to add some sparkle to your hair style. One more thing, make sure you have a person dedicated to helping you with your veil take off. The person you choose should talk to your hair stylist to know exactly how to take it off with out ruining your beautiful hairstyle. If you are going to keep it on all night and love wearing it, great. You may want to consider practicing your fist dance with your veil on before the wedding. I know that when I got married my veil added a few inches on me so when my husband twirled me it was nice to know he was prepared and I didn't get clocked in the head. It sounds silly but it is true!

Sex And The City

I was just on Radio with a Twist talking about the big new movie Sex In The City. I had a great time talking with the hosts about party ideas and how to create the best Sex And The City party. We all had a blast coming up with great ideas. This is a great theme for a bachelorette! Some of the theme ideas would make a fun day of sex and the city or just have a few hours of fun!

Pedicures and Shoe shopping is a great Carrie style of hanging out with the ladies. This would be great fun to do with your bridesmaids and maybe even select the shoes for the wedding.

How about a personal photo shoot just like the ladies from Sex In The City. We all see the advertisements on tv, billboards, and magazines. All of the ladies are wearing the same color just all different dresses. As women I think we love the idea of relationships and seeing the ladies together as it makes you think of your own friendships. Have your bridesmaid's dress up in their favorite sexy dress. (same color for everyone) Hair, Make up and HOT high heals are a must. Have fun and create an amazing photo with your friends just like the ladies in Sex and The City.

Pajama Party , grab the DVD box set invite your friends over in their PJ and High Heals to watch the episodes. Serve NYC style of food and for cocktails, a Cosmopolitan is a great choice, but if you are looking for something not so pink try a Manhattan.

Last but not least... Go See The MOVIE Sex And The City. Rent a limo go to a fabulous chic restaurant and bar then go see the movie. You will not only have fun with your girlfriends but they will think it is a fun and fabulous party idea. Love and live the glamorous lifestyle for a day with all your best girlfriends. They are all so very different, from two people sharing an intimate experience to a gala event. Anyway you decide on... it's always a treat! I was just recently in Antigua at a resort called Curtain bluff. It was amazing!! I met a few couples while filming for Together In Style. A few of the couples were taking a honeymoon and one of the couples got married at the resort. We had great conversations together. While I was there I was thinking about do's and don't that sometimes get over looked. Here are some tips and advice to help you enjoy your destination wedding and honeymoon!

Make sure to work with a travel planner. Today so many of us use the internet to make basic flight and travel arrangements. For your destination wedding or honeymoon a travel professional that you can personally talk to is a must. They will be a great help to get you the best rates and let you know all about the destination you are looking for. It is a total misconception that is cost more when doing business with people instead of a website. You still pay fees no matter what. The great part of working with a travel planner is that your guests at the event can have a simple solution for making travel arrangements. This way you know first hand that your guest are going to have a great experience getting to and from your wedding. This is the dream vacation and you want it to be perfect!

Do hire a professional photographer that you are familiar with. This one of the most important moments in your life! Pictures of the moments, people and place will bring you back in time as each year that passes. Many resorts have packages that include photography with a certain number of photos in a book. Every book looks the same filled with the same poses just different people. You will regret not having something special and photos that when you look at them you connect with he people in the photograph. My advise is t hire someone that you can personally meet after the wedding. Photographers services are not only the day of. Most of the final work is done when you are picking out your photos after the wedding. Honeymoons count too! The couples I met at the resort said how they would have love to hire a photographer to do a photo shoot on the beach at sunset to remember the moments. They just did not think about it until it was too late! Thankfully we had our cameras and we able to hook them up with great pictures! The photography is so important and will great effect the way you remember things!

Send out save the dates well in advance for your destination wedding. People love to know well in advance to plan. Guests may have to take off from work, save up, child care, a new dress... you never know. It is also smart in your invitation to let your family and friends know about all of the events happening during the wedding weekend, local hot spots and maybe other hotel options if they are available. Also let your guest know about dress codes. Your invitations and save the dates are the first impression that our guests are going to have for the event so theme them to your style of wedding!

Remember the essentials... It's true. When it's done right, it can easily become a prized possession for couples that moves them to tears, makes them laugh, and brings them home to the moments that matter most.

Brett Culp is one of the nations most awarded video artists for weddings and events. I get the opportunity to work with Brett several times per year, and it is always a pleasure. He also has a great way of telling it like it is and has an in depth understanding of just how important documenting your life is. He shared this article he wrote with me, and I am in turn sharing it with you. Below he shares a great perspective with us in his article "Every Wedding Is A Story". I hope you enjoy it....

Every wedding tells a story. As you build your guest list, choose your colors, pick out a dress and envision your décor, you are writing a story. The family members and friends are your cast of characters. Your ceremony and reception locations are the setting. The bridesmaid’s dresses and tuxedos are the costumes.

But the heart of the story is you. You are celebrating a relationship that has blossomed from affection into passion, from a first date into a lifelong commitment. The most successful weddings express the personality and style of the bride and groom, telling the story of their relationship in a unique way.

The reality of a wedding, however, is that the story goes by so fast that it’s impossible to fully take it in. The day becomes a memory before you can truly cherish the experience. That’s what makes a wedding video so valuable. The power of video is its ability to capture those moments in a way that allows you to experience it forever.

Video can capture so many aspects of your wedding story. Your mother’s reaction when you zip your wedding dress. The movement of your steps as you walk down the aisle. The tenderness in your partner’s voice as they speak their vows. The graceful motion of your first dance. The blessings your friends and family share in their toasts. The energy of the dance floor as you celebrate this new phase of your life.

A well-produced wedding video is like a time machine. It can transport you back to places, people and events that have long since passed. You can relive the emotional experience of one of the best days of your life while savoring the details and intricacies of the story you spent countless hours planning and dreaming of.

Current technology now allows our team at The CVP Experience to produce “wedding films” that are comparable with the quality and emotional impact of major motion pictures. Low-light capabilities of the newest high-definition video cameras allow filming without obtrusive additional lighting. There is no posing, staging, or interacting. At many weddings, the majority of the guests don’t even know we were there.

The possibilities to share your day with video are endless. Our team often edits a four minute Highlights video as the day progresses, and our clients show it on a big screen during the dinner reception or as a finale to the evening. This Highlights video can then be shared with friends and family around the world via the Internet before the last dance even begins. Your cell phone or iPod can then carry your wedding story everywhere you go, allowing you to share your wedding anytime.

Your story can be enhanced with look-back interviews of your memories, filmed a few weeks after the wedding day. This adds a “Director’s Commentary” to your video, making it a journal of your favorite moments from the wedding.

Capturing your wedding story through video keeps you connected to the memories and people that matter most. Video allows you to celebrate and embrace the story of your life.

Since entering the field in 1998, Brett Culp of The CVP Experience has become one of the most respected event video producers in the nation capturing many of the top wedding and luxury events in the world. Brett is the personal videographer for celebrities, dignitaries, professional athletes, best-selling authors and rock stars and his award-winning work is frequently featured on national television broadcasts.

In total, Brett has won twenty-four prestigious WEVA (Wedding and Event Videographers Association) awards, winning more than any other company in the world over the past six years. www.BrettCulp.com

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! Even event planners we have worked with haven't heard the story behind the grooms cake. Here are a few examples of grooms cakes we've seen. There is no rhyme or reason to the design. It can be anything you/he wishes. So what is it all about?

Here's the scoop. The grooms cake is a separate cake that can be cut up at the end of the night and boxed for a sweet dream take home gift. The story goes, that if you are a single woman and sleep with the cake under your pillow, you just might dream of the the man you will marry. Sweet dreams ladies!!!

I had the opportunity to speak one on one with queen of cakes Sylvia Weinstock and asked about the popularity of the Grooms Cake. Sylvia stated that the grooms cake is generally designed around the grooms interest. If he is a baseball player, maybe his favorite team could be the decor, etc... The Grooms cake should say something about who the groom is. Sylvia has designed cakes for so many celebrities I wont bother you with long list of names. But most impressive about her was to see her in action at her work space in Manhattan. She is very hands on and when we arrived, she was personally boxing up individual cakes for an event that weekend. Proof that stars get to the top by proving each day that its not business, its personal.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thebridesbestfriend.blogspot.com/2007/10/grooms-cake-whats-scoop.html' title='Grooms Cake? You should really think about the music enhancing the mood of the environment. Music greatly effects the way you feel when experiencing a moment. When you hear the sounds of Trumpet Voluntary you think here comes the bride. Your ceremony is a great place to showcase who you are as a couple and what your marriage means to you. For example if you are having a garden ceremony you may have a string quartet to add a charming and romantic touch. Recently I photographed an wonderful outdoor wedding in which the Harlem Gospel Choir came down the aisle and starting singing as the bride and groom kissed. It was such an amazing experience to close the ceremony in celebration and brought many to tears. A unique idea that I have only seen once in my career, making it personal and special as it was a surprise for the groom. The most popular months to be engaged is December through March. With all of the holidays happening popping the question during these momentous times is a favorite with the gentlemen. With that said why not do your engagement photo shoot in the winter time. It can be so much fun! It is also great to have your engagement session early during your engagement this way you can send out great things for family and friends like, save the date cards or calenders, or may be just a traditional announcement. Here is a great story about the couple in the photograph you see. This couple was living in the Caribbean and made an appointment with us during a time when they were in NYC visiting. As the date got near the weather report was getting worse. We ended up having one of the biggest snowstorms in the city that day! We called the couple and let them know that their comfort was our biggest concern BUT we said the photos would be so poetic in the snow. They wanted to do the photo shoot and had the time of their lives!!
Remember it is not to often in your life when you have a photographer so take advantage of the opportunity to have photographs taken in normal cloths besides wedding attire. This showcases who you are NOW, because 50 years from now our couple will still be talking about the crazy snowstorm in NYC and how wonderful the engagement photo shoot was as they look at the photograph still hanging on the wall!

Find Favors and Gifts at TIS

Shopping Online!!! There are a couple of questions that couples need to think about when planning their toasts.. Number one is how many toast should there be? And, what is the recipe for the perfect toast?

One to three toasts are a good rule of thumb. More than that tends to get go too long. Hearing from 5 people saying how much they love the couple is just too much. Most of the events I photograph generally have a toast by the best man and/or a matron or maid of honor. A welcoming toast by the father of the bride. And, occasionally a thank you after the cake cutting delivered from the couple. During the thank you, there is sometimes a short toast to your new spouse.

I've seen hundreds of toasts from bridal party members, family, and couples, which leads me to the first question, "What does the perfect toast consist of?" Although there isn't a recipe, I have my own thoughts to share based on a decade of experience and seeing guests reactions. I also called on Eileen Winneck a speech coach, and toast expert to share some tips in a segment on Together In Style. Make sure to visit and see what Eileen has to say in an upcoming interview...

But, for now, here are a few key points, to consider...

1. Keep it Short... Your time in the spot light should be short and to the point. While sharing a couple of clips about your experience with the couple can be a good thing, spending too much time on details can easily become drawn out to the point of boring. Short and sweet, but meaningful should be your goal.
2. No Inside Jokes... Funny experiences and toasts can be fantastic. But keep in mind that what may be funny between close friends doesn't need to be shared with the world. There is a time and place to roast your best friends, but the wedding day isn't it.

3. Think positive... Include an instance or two that shares qualities that you admire in the person you are toasting. And, backing it up with examples never hurts.

4. Don't wing it... Take some time to think about what you would like to say long before the day of the event. Write down a few ideas. Come back to them, and think it through. There is no better time to express your feelings to your new spouse, the couple, or family and friends than this. Make it count because chances are.. It's recorded on video. ha ha...

5. End with a bang... I can't tell you the amount of times I see toasts just die because there was no real closer. Make sure to remember to raise your glass and ask guests to do the same. Otherwise, you didn't really toast anyone, you just got up and talked.

Just a few tips to think about. A toast is the perfect time to express how much you appreciate someone. But, it should also be a great experience for everyone in the room.

Let Him See You Before the Ceremony

It may not be tradition, but there are so many great reasons you should let him see you before the ceremony. For one thing, most couples today live together before getting married and often date for long periods of time. You become each others confidant and trusted companion. Seeing each other before the ceremony is private, it's your moment together, and it eliminates the nervous jitters right from the start.

Photographically speaking, it's always a much stronger opportunity. You embrace, you check each other out, and it often brings out emotions that radiate love in print. Looking beyond that, it offers family and opportunity to have portraits taken before the event. Getting portraits out of the way allows couples to spend the rest of their day living in the moment. And, it allows your photographer to tell a true story that unfolds naturally in the album from beginning to end.

So, when figuring out ways to plan the days events, take into consideration the option of seeing each other before the ceremony. Chances are, if you weigh the advantages, you'll agree that it just makes sense.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New Year! All in HD, season two is going to take it up a few notches.

This morning I got the opportunity to be live on the air in central Florida on the talk radio show "It's Not Your Mother's Wedding". I can't even begin to tell you the number of times we have seen weddings start late because makeup ran over on timing. In a recent interview with Stacey Lyn Weinstein from Once Upon A Bride, she said something that made perfect sense. "Don't be last in the chair!" The bride, that is, should be stress free. And, by not being the last person to need hair and makeup, you'll not only get more attention to detail, but you'll also eliminate a lot of stress and clock watching.

Stacey also suggests having a beauty schedule for the bridesmaids instead of just saying "show up at 1pm so we can get started". By planning a schedule, you ensure that ample time is given to each bridesmaid. Starting your day on time is essential to the flow of the days events. While, the wedding can't start with out the bride, planning ahead gives you extra time for pictures and partying at the end of the evening.

Long Tables or Round Tables

Long tables vs. round tables for events is an interesting concept. While you would think that round tables allow you to see and speak with everyone at the table, it often isn't the case. Remember the band or DJ music is present, and add that to the sound of 200 voices having conversation, and it's simply too loud in many cases to carry on distant conversation at many weddings or events. So unless you plan to scream across the table, long tables might be another consideration that adds to the visual atmosphere and personal conversations at your wedding.

Visually speaking, I always love walking into a room that has a blend of both long and short tables rather than one or the other. It makes each section of the room more interesting to look at. And, although it is important to stick with a theme, the decor elements can shift from table to table adding to the visual experience that guests have. Family style seating also offers a touch of romance for each couple attending the
wedding because, assuming they are seated together, they are in their own little world with attention on each other.

So, when thinking about both the visual experience in the room, and the personal experience of guests, consider the ideas mixing up the sizes and shapes of tables in the room. It can add a touch of class to the design and a touch of romance to the experience.

Personalization is a Luxury

True luxury isnt about how much you spend, its how much you enjoy it. The premise at luxury driven wedding websites like www.TogetherInStyle.com is that luxury is about personalization, saving time, and enjoying every minute of the wedding experience.

With that said, a few years ago I photographed a small beach wedding in Connecticut and the brides created a wonderful personal gift for her guests. It wasn't expensive to create, but it was personal which added a luxurious touch and a token of affection to every guest at the wedding.

She took the time to find old photographs of guests and attached a little personal note to the photograph. At their leisure, guests could wonder over to an area on the beach that had a clothes line and look for their picture. It brought everyone back to other times with the couple and was such a wonderful way to honor the relationship they had with each individual.

Remember that adding personal touches adds luxury to the event in ways that touch the heart.

Couture Bridal Fashion Week

Last week was Bridal Fashion Week in Manhattan and Together In Style and I visited behind the scenes with the biggest names in Bridal Couture. So, it's no wonder so many couples make it a point to utilize vintage car services for their weddings or events. Whether in the country, or in the city these classic beauties hold a place in our hearts of a sweet time when the economy was roaring.

Few things stand the test of time, but the classic Rolls has done just that. It is interesting that no matter what is fashionable at the moment, vintage cars always remain in style. But you don't have to just think vintage... You can think sporty or modern when thinking about luxury cars. Cars in general add to the fashion of your wedding, so it is smart to think about the car you will arrive and leave in as more than just a detail, it can also be an accessory to fashion.

Talking About Trends

It was fun this week being on WTNH / ABC news at noon talking about the latest styles, wedding trends, and Together In Style. The topics covered were hot colors this season, going green, and tricks to looking 10 pounds lighter in photographs. I thought a recap of the segment might be a good idea for those in Connecticut that may have caught it.

As far as hot colors this season, we are seeing a lot of chocolate browns being used with colorful accents such as ice blue for late summer, or burn oranges for the fall. Last weekend my husband Charles photographed a wedding in which the groomsmen had stunning striped chocolate brown custom tuxedos. So this theme is even carrying into the groomsman's attire as well.

Going green is a big topic these days as weddings can be very wasteful. Outdoor weddings are very popular saving on electricity. We are seeing soy based inks being used in invitations as well as recycled papers, and photographers are often delivering electronic proofs rather than paper proofs saving on chemical wastes, trees, etc...

So now the big question... 10 pounds lighter? Well, that may be a tough one, but there are some tricks that help. Double chins are often a worry for people when being photographed. As a photographer myself, I notice that most people raise their chin with the thought that this will stretch the skin. But, the truth is that raising your chin only shows it off. Pulling your shoulders back and standing tall helps. But the key is actually lowering your chin. Whether your wedding is in the country, the city, the beach, or a far off distant land, there are things all around us that can make the ordinary, extraordinary.

Country weddings can have such amazing charm. There are so many ways to use natural embellishments to coincide with the theme of a small town wedding. Think of normal things that can be used to accent a wedding detail.

Apples, for instance, are an ordinary item for a country wedding. But, turning the apples into place cards for the seating arrangement was a very cute idea. Event designer Traci Romano utilized pinks and greens to brighten up the event and create a chic vibe that worked incredibly well in this country setting.

Using contrasting colors created a visual oasis for guests, yet her natural embellishments allowed the country theme to carry through. The custom is inteded to give newlyweds good luck and often represents fertility and abundance.

Today, birdseed and flowers are more popular choices as things to be thrown at a couple. It seems that the years has taught us that rice is bad for the birds who feed on the uncooked rice. Other popular tosses in celebration include fall leaves, sunflower seeds, paper snowflakes, or blowing bubbles. Kids LOVE the bubbles, although we see adults getting a little excited about bubbles sometimes as well, I must admit.

I always love capturing this part of celebrations, however it has it's scary side as well. Birdseed will be in your hair for days, bubbles can cause a slippery floor in some cases, and I've even seen a groom get hit in the eye with rose petals, which as silly as it may sound was quite painful, and came as a sudden surprise. So, choose wisely, and make sure to base your decisions on when and where you plan this part of your celebration.

Who's Next?

We've all heard about the garter and bouquet, and the tradition that goes along with it. And, today more and more couples are choosing to skip this portion of the wedding reception tradition as we all know, it can turn from funny into something else entirely after a few too many cocktails. Recently at a wedding, I saw the girls writing their names on the bottom of the brides shoes. When inquiring why? They stated that this was their special way of carrying out a similar tradition. The last person's name that is clearly readable, is the next person to get married. I was surprised to hear all of the comments from guests asking about the story after they all saw as the bride was kneeling at the alter. A fun, simple, and cute idea I thought I would pass along to share with your girls.

The Jewelry Box

The rings are important... wouldn't you say?

We've all seen the idea of the ring bearer carrying the rings attached to a pillow. But another cute idea is to purchase a special jewelry box and have a ring bearer, flower girl, or even a junior bridesmaid carry the rings down the aisle.

I've seen this happen at a couple of weddings over the years, and it adds such a personal touch. It's a wonderful gift idea for the groom to give to the bride, or vice versa for that matter. For those that are unaware, a chuppah is canopy which is stretched or supported over four poles that is traditionally used as the wedding alter at Jewish weddings. The chuppah is meant to symbolize the home the couple will build together. In a spiritual sense, the covering of the chuppah represents the presence of God over the covenant of marriage.

Sometimes, it is carried to, and even held by attendants to the location where the ceremony will take place. Other times, especially if it is too large, or heavy, it is simply prepared by an event designer or florist to be stationary. Either way, this special creation will be the focal point of the ceremony and the place the couple will exchange their vows, their rings, and their first kiss.

I thought some couples that are starting to plan for their chuppah

might like a glimpse at some amazing designs I've captured recently. Typically a chuppah consists of cloth and sometimes flowers, or both. Sometimes they are very simple, other times a lot of effort goes into the creation.
I've also taken the time to credit the artists, florists, or event designers that created these one of a kind works of art. As you can see they all put a lot of heart and time into their creations.

Considering the Costs

Years ago, I heard a short story about Vincent VanGogh. Whether true or not, it makes a valid and interesting point. Many of you have heard it I am sure and it goes something like this... Vincent VanGogh was walking through the streets of Paris one day when he was noticed by a pedestrian. The pedestrian stopped him saying.. Mr. VanGogh, I love your work! You are so amazingly talented! Could you please draw something for me on this piece of paper? Anything, it doesn't matter. It would mean the world to me. Kindly enough, Vincent took the piece of paper and sketched out a marvelous little piece in a matter of seconds. The man said "let me pay you something, please". VanGogh said no, but the the man persisted. Then he, ok.. ok... $100,000.00 then. Then man looked in disgust stating "but just a minute ago you said it was free and it took you only a matter of seconds!" VanGogh stated "yes, but it has taken me a lifetime to get to this moment where I could create such a masterpiece."

Which brings me to the budgeting topic once again. Most of us have to do it, budget for the things we value most in life. Brides always ask me, why does one event planner, photographer, band, dj, florist, caterer, reception location, or any wedding professional cost dramatically more than another? How is it possible that one would cost 2-4 times as much as everyone else in the area I live? Are they crazy? Are they just sooo busy that they can or have to charge that much?

The truth is, absolutely not. The leading professionals that cost dramatically more are most often more than just proven to be reliable. Often times they are literal geniuses that don't look at their work for you as a paycheck. They look at it as their life's work. Much like the story above, they can take on a task in a moments notice and turn it into a masterpiece. Typically, they don't farm out the details to other people, and have become such a big name because they are trust worthy. They have made it to the top mostly by referral, by doing the best they know how, by not cutting corners, and by driving themselves crazy over the details of every event they work on.

You are generally not only paying for the artistry, but also to their connections to finer products used in your event which adds to their ability to perform at peak each and every time. Most of all, you should be able to put faith and trust in your wedding professionals because they've seen enough to know what is going to work best and what can lead you to disaster. They will understand the risks involved in their inherent professional details, and will know how to take educated risks which lead to one of a kind experiences for you and your guests.

The saying, it's lonely at the top, is also often true. Be wary of any professional that has something negative to say about another. Successful professionals would never do that. But, just like in other things in life, excellence can bring on jealousy from others that are too afraid or lack the talent to dream outside the box. The visual effect can be very interesting especially in the fall. Leaves that are falling land on the top of the tent adding an additional colorful effect during the daytime. It also gives you a an opportunity to connect with

your photographer and

make sure you are a good fit for the wedding day itself. You will undoubtedly spend more time
with your photographer on your wedding day than any other wedding professional, so I can'tstress enough that you know what you are getting yourself into. A photographer should be able to not only create amazing photographs, but they should also be able to make you feel comfortable and at home in front of the camera. With that said, here are some fun ways you can approach having some special photographs made that are meaningful. Often, I like to learn a little about each couple. What do they do in their spare time? Where do they go on dates together? How can we wrap the session around their personalities and their relationship? What we have learned is that every couple has something special that has meaning to them. One couple may have grown up on a family farm, while another may have met in New York City, still another may have a beach home that has special meaning. Maybe they go to a special cafe for dinner, or the park, or ice skating.. You get
the point...

Planning a special dinner date is also another great opportunity. Get dress up and plan a special celebration night out. Have your photographer join you for an hour beforehand in that neighborhood for portraits. Rain or shine, if it means something, it makes sense.

Today, photographers are also creating all sorts of interestingproducts and ways in which you can use the photographs for on the wedding day itself. Photographic guest books are a very hot item at our studio. Signature portraits where an image is displayed on an easel and guests sign the mat is another interesting idea.. Or plan for a one of a kind work of art to be created for your home printed on canvas in a huge size such as a 40x60 inch print. Engagement portraits also make incredible gifts for parents, grandparents, and siblings as well. It is a great way to thank them for their support.
The ideas and options are endless, and without question, you should plan to record the meaning of this time in your life with professional

photographs. After all, these are your memories and your most prized possession. You will look back and be so glad you did. You never regret doing it right!

Custom Lighting

Last year I photographed a stunning wedding in New York City at Cipriani. And, as I walked into the awe inspiring room, one thing struck me as a very cool idea to add a personal touch to a ballroom. Don't get me started on talking about lighting.. Remember, I am a photographer. Lighting is often overlooked, or just thought not to be needed. I need multiple posts to go into detail of why a great lighting company is so important for almost every style of event.

Even in a massive space that is decorated to the hilt, you can still have personal touches that make it your very own. The idea that caught my attention was the use of a custom made gobo that projected the bride and grooms monogram onto the floor. The monogram not only added personalization, but it also welcomed guests into the reception as the wait staff stood at attention with cocktails in hand. It was simple idea with a powerful touch.

Meet Halfway

Traditionally, the father of the Bride walks her down the aisle of course, but sometimes a bride may have a special reason to want both her mother and father to be a part of this special moment. For instance maybe she is close to both parents, but parents are divorced. Or, maybe she just wants to include them both.

I've seen several occassions where the parents of the bride enter the processional together and stop about halfway down the aisle. Then, the bride enters and meets her parents halfway down the center of the aisle to the alter. If you have a long and wide enough aisle, this offers additional photographic moments and opportunities, and at the same time gives guests an opportunity to enjoy the moment the bride greets her parents. From this point, parents and the bride make their way to the groom who is waiting at the alter.

Each time I see this I always enjoy it and thought it might be nice to share a small tidbit or tip for those that are trying to think a thoughtful and creative way to include both mom and dad during this special moment.

Over the top entertainment

No matter how many weddings I photograph or see, I am still surprised at the unique ideas people come up with to entertain their guests. Which leads me to believe that if I didn't know it was available, then chances are, most couples planning their wedding don't realize the possibilities either. So, allow me to share a few possibilities....

Entertainment is such a key ingredient to the success of a luxury wedding. The band, or DJ play a major roll and I'll certainly embellish on that in a future post, but there is a lot more that is possible and you should at least know about it. I've seen and captured everything from Russian performers 70 feet above the crowd at Cipriani on Wall Street to Cirque De Solei performing at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota Florida. I photographed the likes of Billy Joel, 50 cent, Paul Anka, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Ashford and Simpson, and many other famous musicians performing at weddings or over the top parties. I also captured belly dancers performing at a wedding in Montreal.

So, to say the least, any form of entertainment you can imagine is available for weddings. In fact there are companies out there that specialize in finding entertainment on all levels. Generally speaking if you are planning to have major forms of entertainment beyond that of a band or DJ, then finding and hiring an event planner or an entertainment company that is connected to these sources is almost a must.

I've also been asked several times... "Doesn't the over the top show or entertainment distract from the couple?" As much as I would love to agree, the truth is, "absolutely not." In fact, if you are going to throw a party, and have the budget to take it to this level, then doesn't it make sense that your wedding should be your ultimate party of lifetime? And, if to you that means entertainment, then go for it! As a photographer, I get to zoom in on the tears on peoples faces and the expressions or emotions and witness first hand how amazing their guests feel in such a surreal environment. It doesn't take away. It adds to the emotional impact with a whole different element that makes their special day one of a kind. So, there you have it.. The possibilities are endless!

Celebrate Together In Style

Hello everyone and welcome to the my first post of "The Brides Best Friend". The name came to me when I was talking to a client one day and they mentioned how great it was to have me as part of of their wedding experience. She said it was like having a best friend there through the entire wedding process.

As a wedding photographer, I experience so much more with couples than any other professional that is hired for their wedding or event. Why, or how do you ask? Well, it's simple. Photographers meet with couples after the wedding is over and get to hear the inside scoop on what went wrong, what the best moments were, who was important, and so much more.

And, event planner or not, it is up to me to make sure the day runs on time because it's the photographer that can make or break just how smooth the day flows. Since I photograph the details, I get to see weddings on every angle and up close and personal. I see the ideas, concepts, decor, food, lighting, love, laughter, and tears. I get to hear the toasts. I get to feel the love of father and daughter or mother and son. I know the struggles professionals face when they are working hard to make sure they do their best for you. And, I get to capture it all as a lasting memory for couples.

My career started in a small town just north of New Haven, Connecticut. I have photographed the smallest weddings you can imagine and worked my way up by pleasing one couple at a time to gain International recognition and to be hired to photograph the biggest A-List celebrity weddings in history. I now work out of Manhattan and travel widely for parties and destination weddings. Along the way, I've made some great friends with the world's biggest names in the wedding industry. So, as host of TogetherInStyle.com, I call on them to bring quality information that you can count on via television shows you can watch online 24/7.

So, I guess that pretty much makes me the perfect expert, and a friend to every bride that is seeking ideas that are unique.
